Stock and Real Estate
Gifts
You may wish to give Friedman Place a gift of securities, including
stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have appreciated in value, or
a gift of land or buildings. Gifts of publicly traded securities
and real property provide you with a double tax benefit. First,
you can avoid capital gains tax and, second, you can receive a charitable
income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the gift.

Planned Gifts
Planned gifts are arranged now to benefit Friedman Place in the
future. They are useful tools for estate planning, often yielding
both immediate and deferred tax savings. They can be effective strategies
for assuring financial security for the donor, the donorÕs family,
as well as Friedman Place. They can also provide peace of mind in
the knowledge that oneÕs wishes will be carried out. These gifts
are in the form of wills, trusts, retirement plans, or life insurance
policies. A good planned gift should protect the donor from adverse
tax consequences, protect the donor's assets, and maximize the donor's
philanthropic capacity. Planned gifts should always be made in consultation
with your lawyer, accountant, or financial advisor, and a representative
of Friedman Place. Please contact the Development Office: 773-989-9800
or development@friedmanplace.org
for more information.

Bequests
Bequests have been an important source of support throughout the
history of Friedman Place and the Association of Jewish Blind. Many
loyal friends have found that a bequest is a relatively easy way
to ensure the future of our mission to serve blind and visually
impaired people.
There are several ways to make a bequest or gift through your will
to Friedman Place. The provision you choose will depend upon your
circumstances, what type of property you wish to bequeath, and your
other obligations. The kinds of bequests you can make are:
Specific Bequest: You bequeath a specific sum
of cash or other property for a program you name or for Friedman
Place's use where most needed. Here is suggested wording for making
a specific bequest: "I bequeath to Friedman Place of Chicago,
IL, the sum of $________, to be used by said corporation for its
general purposes."
Residuary Bequest: In this case, you bequeath
a specified percentage or all of the assets remaining in your
estate after other expenses and bequests have been paid.
Contingent Bequest: In this case, you direct
that a specific amount or a percentage of your estate be paid
to Friedman Place, only if your other beneficiary(ies) does(do)
not survive you.

Life Income Vehicles
There are several ways to make a gift to Friedman Place, and receive
income payments for life.
Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA): Charitable Gift
Annuities offer competitive rates of return, provide donors with
an income tax deduction at the time of the gift, and can be created
easily using a variety of assets. The charitable gift annuity
is a very popular vehicle for making planned gifts.
Charitable Remainder Trust: This vehicle allows
you to name one or more beneficiaries to receive income for life
or for a term of years, after which the trust assets revert to
Friedman Place.
Charitable Lead Trust: This vehicle allows you
to provide income to Friedman Place for a specified number of
years, after which the trust assets revert to your heirs. This
plan provides a unique means of passing assets to your loved ones
while significantly reducing estate taxes.
